Piet Mondrian is an artist who originally went with a traditional style, depicting trees and landscapes in attractive but conventional ways. Similarly to Kandinsky this initial mainstream art was then later replaced by a bolder, far more inventive abstract format that pushed the boundaries of art at that time in new directions. These abstract forms came in lines, squares and circles similar to those of Russian Malevich.

Mondrian prints experiment constantly with the same themes once he had reached his most preferred style. The use of primary colours contrasting with whites and blacks made an immediate impression and still interest people today by seeming strangely modern still.
